powder coating over chrome plate
theRuler:
my local powder coaters doesnt do stripping / dipping. they have to "send it away" at an extra cost
i have a few frames that are chrome plated (but tatty)
can i just get them powder coated over the chrome plate?
also will powder coat go ok over nickel plate (a la old mongoose) ?
Nosnod:
Graeme,
I think the chrome needs a key before it is powdercoated
My powdercoaters always shot blast the frames and forks regardless of whether they are chrome or painted. Costs me £30 all in usually.
theRuler:
the powdercoaters i go to, dont do any prep. they just powder
whats the best way to key it?
scotchbrite?
Steve P:
Get it blasted for best results . . . if not use emery cloth to leave a good key
Make sure there are no signs of pitting or chrome flake as these will show though the fresh powder
Cheers
