Getting stuff re-chromed
martylaa:
Ok if I was getting some bits rechromed and say there was some pitting on the stuff, would I be able to just send to the chromers or would I need to do some sanding etc prior to sending it off?
rollin72:
they should sort it out for you, i sent some painted crank arms, stripped most of it myself but there were still bits on them, they came back funky fresh and in effect >:D
bmxbob:
i ve never had anything re-chromed :-\ but the finish is only as good a s the prep so i think i would want to get the items sanded and smoothed before i splashed out ££££ on re-chroming :daumenhoch:
mark 2:
The process is to remove the original chrome first, so you'll only be sanding away at was is being removed their end. Next the bare metal is polished to a mirror finish. That's where the bulk of the work and expense is. That will remove light pitting but with deep stuff the more it is polished to remove it is obviously making that area of metal thinner so they can only go so far.
markyp:
i would never take for granted that the chromers will do the prep correctly, the best thing to do is go in person and explain exactly what finish you are expecting,if you dont you may regret it like i did with my mongoose :'(
