If possible though, avoid rechroming the frame, keeping its original integrity will make it that bit more special. I guess with these bikes people want to maximise the bling factor, so I know what you saying if the forks (and the rest of the components) look gleaming and new it can make a frame look a little out of place. Keep working at it though, I've had some right shit stuff and with a bit of graft can come out very decent and blend in with a mint bike. From what I can see it looks far from buggered though.
BTW, it's an 83 frame, are you going for 83 spec? And has it got a serial, they look like the earlier Thruster welds (which would be pre serial)
