I use caustic soda granules with hot water. Don't breath in the fumes, Don't get it on your skin and don't leave the parts in the caustic soda for too long or else it will eat away at the aluminium.

done that and that and that and fell over trying to get out of fumes then my leg gave way   :LolLolLolLol:
