Tighter than tight!

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs......
When you tighten the stem, do it in a 'cross pattern' making absolutely sure that the gap between the two parts of the stem remains even all the way round. That makes sure the stem is working at its strongest, which in turn means you need only tighten it up to a good nip, if you see what I mean - no need to use the extra tube. You could also whip the bolts out completely and add some grease to 'em to help you in the future :)
