Tips to make brakes work...
ED209:
I'm running a DC FS880 front through a hollow stem bolt with an inverted DC 86 cable and white DC blocks.
Rear is DC 901 tough a Skyway Spinmaster with DC 86 cables and 80s Kool stop continentals.
Wheels are OGKs.
Yes... all right for the age of my build but USELESS for STOPPING.
Yes - am at least 4 stone heavier than when I was 16 but SURELY I can still get to make my brakes work
I tried to build the bike true to its age but I want to 'ride' my bike and I want my brakes to 'lock' the wheels and I can deal with using new school blocks but I'm not changing the brakes ( DC 880 front 901 back )
( "loose weight" is not an option... 8)
Q. Is there a new block - like the longer kool stops - that work well?
Q. Do I have to lose the spinner
Q. do I need something like the teflon lined powerglide cables - Firebird Steve told me its a must if the cables are being routed through the frame but I've not done that yet
Any advice to make they work would be much appreciated.
trasher:
use your foot on the back tyre
Proper old school that is ;)
pickle:
ED if you want to use the OS bike as a rider, i'd ditch the OGKs and get some spoked wheels........maybe even some 10mm axled new wheels with chrome rims :daumenhoch:
MartyC:
If the Koolstop's are not doing the trick maybe worth trying ACS brake blocks; I've heard they work a treat :daumenhoch:
Voodoocars:
Stick a coaster on it and bin the hand levers....
