I think it is a british standard or something, but all UK bikes come with the right lever as the front, left lever as the rear & I think the rest of the world is the other way round.
I always have the right as the rear brake.

i'm right handed but have always had the back brake on the left, i think the cable routing looks better too if you're using something like mx1000s. i would change sides if i were using 901s tho, especially if using a front brake too.
