occurred to me that I can't find my bike lock and wondered how safe people's bikes are there from local pikeys (especially given that loads of you are bringing van loads of bikes worth £££s more than mine) Do people generally lock them up?

just use common sense John, i wouldn't leave it just laying around anywhere but it's pretty safe mate. I've got a couple of locks and you can borrow one mate

Griff, me and Hootski pick up all the pish-heads bikes and lock them up at the end of the night and if you leave your bikes to go for a mooch / spin then there will be plenty of us about. If not we have shit-loads of armoured cable & locks so no worries.
