What year did they start to do them in regular chrome?

Also I remember reading that they used the not so good chromed/nickled frames and put the candy over the top to save on wastage, in other words so that they  didn't have to throw them away.  Do you know if that's true or just an urban myth?

Leave it chrome mate it stunning just the way it is  :daumenhoch:

but if you really want that old black finish back chuck a couple of tubes of peek polish on it and let it rest for an hour or two
then when you remove it you will have a dull black finish again  :LolLolLolLol:

chrome all the way very nice indeed  :smitten:

oldschoolrb:
by the condition of this id have to say its an urban myth !!

The pro-class came out in 82 and was offered in both finishes  :daumenhoch:

As for candy over the not so well plated frames, I dunno, I guess it's possible but the that would have been back in the team goose days and it seems a little strange for them to have done that since the team and then pro-class where their top of the line bikes  :-\

The teams were originally candy over nickel 79-80 , then candy over chrome 80-81, then candy over silver powder base from mid 81 onwards and that was a combination of cost saving and durability as the original candy fell off the chrome/nickle just by looking at it !

The black chrome finish looks to be almost like a chemical stain rather than the original thicker candy lacquer of the teams since it kind of fades off thinly rather than flaking of in big chunks  :-\

Either that or it's just very thinnly applied using a lacquer that bonded very well with the chrome  ???
