Thanks to Bendycat, the rear wheel is working again.   :)

I couldn't use the bearings as they were bigger than my ones which are 3/16ths. But he supplied the kit very quickly with two smaller cones which I have been able to use and run the bearings loose.   

Just proves that being a member of a forum like this, you can usually sort things out far easier than wasting time with bike shops (I went to approx. 8 around Surrey who couldn't help) !

Cheers for everyone's advice as well.
