btw, what is the central bit that goes through the flanges?  This picture shows it best:



Is it structural (looks crumpled in this picture) or, as I suspect, just there to contain grease etc from the central spindle??

a note on the rear axle I always take just the none freewheel side nuts and cone out so that the axle is always right when you put it back.  :daumenhoch:
