Is there a less brutal way of removing sealed profile type bb bearings?

Maybe it is a cooling off period for the thumb to recover.....

just done a tight set 2 big hits spacer moved 4 hits through the hole back bearing out turned over 4 good hits all done .

you see, i was trying to save the bearings, so i thought banging them from the back might feck them up.
