Headset & Forks Question - Advice desperately needed !!
brass monkey!:
Morning !!
I decided to get all the parts for my old school build out to start planning putting it together on Sunday.
In my NOS Headset, I noticed that there is a new 'crown cone' ? Which is where the ballrace sits on at the base of the forks? (apologies if I have the wrong terminology!), anyway there is already one on the forks (they are Hutch Trickstar Forks), should I remove the existing one and replace it with the new one in the box with my new headset ??
The existing one on the forks looks like it'll just separate with a light tap, but I don't want to damage anything ??
Can anyone give me some advise or help please,
Thanks alot ! :daumenhoch:

I would leave it if it is in good condition and looks the same. No point making work for yourself. I did the same.

The top part, where the 'ballrace' sits looks okay, but the cone seems to have been pushed downwards, so that there is an indent on the underside if you looked at it in profile, the new one has a flat base, with no indent.
I have nothing to compare it to so I don't know if its supposed to be like that or it's been compressed over the years??

i personally prefer to use all the components in a headset, as you kow they have been designed to work together.
if it looks any different, i would take it off.
