is the crack just in the chrome or right through the dropout

if the forks are pinched together too far when the wheel is fitted this can stress the drop outs  :daumenhoch:

 Good point.I think the crack is in the metal because it is mirrored on the inside and the outside of the dropout. But I  could be wrong. Regarding having too much gap in the dropouts,I always used washers to combat this.
Thanks for pointing these things out. Now You've  made me want to strip the chrome off.  :-\
