Grip dying problems
« on: June 05, 2012, 11:07 AM »
A few weeks ago I decided to dye some grips for the first time & followed the stickie to the letter...I was even using the same grips in the same colour!
They did not dye!!  >:( Mark said he would try it for me so sent them off with another packet of Rit- they did not dye...!! I then sent him 2 more packets & he used them both...they did not dye...!!  :tickedoff:
What the cacking hell is going on...??!  ???

Read Christians comments on page 2 of that thread.
One of the grip dye threads on here ended up with one of the mods saying so 'basically ' grips don't dye.
They end up some sort of brown over time and the black starts to rub off.

Are the grips done in the thread still all that ?

I was talking to someone at radchester last year with a set that had started rubbing off.
Not 100% but I think they were 5's.
( it may have been Sam but I had, had a few when I was been told the tale)

did you use a fixer ?

some rubber will not dye and some gets lucky

dylon works best on nylon, which it sticks to - seats have a mixture of plastic and nylon ~ this is why they dye well - grips don't have nylon in them

acetate can also be use to help it fix onto the grips
The Devil is away on business, I'm having to step in for him - How can I make your day Hell !!!

So what should I do/use to optimize adhesion...??!!
