Kashimax Aero Restoration
Tidelander:
Thought I would share pics of my restoration of a gnarled up Kashi.
Rails were rusted - oxalic soak and then rub with aluminium foil put them right. The plastic however was ripped up with deep scratches down the sides
Actually doesn't look bad from this angle, but the sides were pretty destroyed ???
Sanded the deep scratches out using a hand power sander and 120 sandpaper then progressive sanded at finer grades until a final final wet and dry sand
Grab one large pot of water - enough to cover the saddle. I used 1 bag of salt, 1 liquid RIT and 1 box of RIT dye powder.
I should add that my misses was out otherwise I'd be dead-man-walking for using her kit ::)
Heated water up to just below simmering and in the saddle went. I left it in the heated water for about an hour and then took it off the stove (carefully) and left it overnight
This is what came out of the pot
Then a plastic polish using Xerapol plastic polish acrylic scratch remover and a buffer wheel on a drill to get a great finish
The final product, some new decals and a new lease of life :daumenhoch:
