How do I stop the play in my pro neck or tuff neck

(1/1)

Not sure if it's me or what but I tighten up the big nut first then the long small one but when it bottoms out I still have play side to side and it just creeks when I ride it, I've oiled the thread! I had the tuff neck on my 83 redline before I sold it and it was fine but now I've put it on a Haro group one to ride and it not tighten up without play :idiot2: any ideas? Is it the wedge to small but why did it tighten up on the redline or is it the headset???!

Gnarlyscoots:
I have had the same problem buddy  :yahoo_silent:  You need to drop the stem bang onto the headset  :daumenhoch:

Tuf Neck stem quills are significantly smaller in diameter than the Fork steerer tube interior, and thats why you get the play. I have had it happen on most of my bikes apart from the earlier Fork.

The only problem is the thread sits higher than the headset, mabe I need a locknut?

What's the fork & headset...?

adiers:
The forks are Haro group one and not sure what headset is? I will post a pic later to see if that sheds any light on the problem
