how do they start and how can you tell from serial no the new remakes and oldies

If your talking about pre 85 Loopy Rippers then it's always been thought that the serial numbers were random. The OM has also confirmed this. However theres another line of thought that they were infact dated serial numbers.

And that goes something like this.

1978 (JUs, DB-III's). No SN's.
1979 (PK, DB-IVs'). No SN till later in the year (November) started with 2xxxx.
1980 3x
1981 4x
1982 5x
1983 6x
1984 7x
1985 SE in house now. New back end, and, new SN style.
