Best way to polish alloy

Ok I've got a load of survivor parts, rims, stems, cranks etc that are dull as Fook alloy.....
What's the best way to polish them up?
I don't have a polishing wheel by the way. Would a polishing mop on a drill do it? Do you use compound etc?
