Z Rims **now finished** for my adidas build.
dancetothedrummersbeat:
I bought a set of white Mike Buff Z Rims a few months ago from rad member dj-paul-c. They were in good nick, although the Mike Buff logo had been almost sanded/blasted out. I wanted to dye these blue for my adidas build that's also in the tech & resto section. A while ago, I posted up a question on how to dye Z rims. Thanks to Bendycat Eleventeen & Retrodan72 for their help and advice. Also thanks to Gaz rollin72 for his 'how to guide'. Retrodan kindly gave me a few tins of Madonna blue dylon, and I bought a few more to beef up the dye mix. Oh dear. Despite using salt and boiling water, the dye just would not take to the rims and left them a dirty lavender colour. I bleached them for 4 days, sanded them down using wet & dry paper, bought 5 packets of royal blue rit dye and 2 tubs of salt and here you are!
After sanding down with wet & dry
After 3 hours in the pot. I then rinsed with cold water, sprayed them with WD40, and applied acs stick on decals. I then went over the decals with clear lacquer to hopefully preserve them when they're ridden.
So don't use dylon. Rit is the way to go.
all built.

They look spot on Andy, a fantastic job. 8)
Not sure clear lacquer will keep the decals on though mate. :-\

Thanks Dan. We'll see if it works. Aren't there stencils that you can buy to spray the logos on?

X2 They look great but nothing will preserve the logos if you use the brakes on them.even if they are stencilled,it is only paint and will rub straight off :daumenhoch:

I had the same quandary last year, I wanted a set of Zs to ride on my DP but also wanted logos on them. I asked about and listened to advice and it seemed that there was no way of preserving the logos on a rider. ::)
In the end, I saved up and got an identical set of wheels so that I have a show set and a rider set. :daumenhoch:
