Tuf neck shaft stuck in Forks !!!!!!!!
Funkyworm:
Ok so I have a new frame which came with a snapped tuf neck,
I managed to remove the head of the stem, stem bolt & headset but the shaft & wedge remain inside the forks .
Any ideas how to get these out ? I'm thinking turn the forks upside down spray with wd & hit the wedge upwards with a mallet & chisel ????????
Anyone with more civilised & proven sergical procedure is more than welcome to chip in :daumenhoch:
mattbloke:
as big a punch as you can that will fit down the centre of the fork, then know it out. if you screw the retaining bolt back into the quill piece to plug the hole you can then have the forks upside down and fill them with WD or a light penetrating oil :daumenhoch:
mattbloke:
scrub that, just looed at the picture again DOH! fil the bottom of the fork with WD as i said, but you will need to knock the quill (the little bit on the end of the stem) down first so that it isnt keeping the shaft locked tight.

Sweet I screwed the quill bolt back in to the wedge gave it a tap downwards & it freed up the main shaft which i've removed with some of those plumbers clamps/ plier type things ALL SORTED
Now where to find a new stem for a Tuf Neck ????
Wanted section me thinks !
Waxintaxin:
what is snapped ? the alloy parts are pushed on to the steel shaft so nothing looks broken except the long bigger bolt and they are easy to get hold of
