gyro with old style levers

Help me, I've got some mx1000 copy  levers and calipers can i use these with a gyro set up when i got the upper cable it only will connect to the lever by the screw in type doofer ::)(technical term I believe) i dont know what its called but it holds the cable in the lever, and how do i fit the front cable on side pull brakes.Can you help or am I way wide of the mark and should i just bin the gyro. Cheers
