Gentlemen may i introduce..... the Skyway ace rim
oldschoolace:
Just bunging this back up for anyone who fancies a go as it got lost in the new site change over :daumenhoch:
Been working on this idea for a while now and thought i would give you lot a sneak preview now the finish line is in sight. :)
I started off with a tatty, damaged and hubless set of early etched logo skyways which Scorcher Mick was kind enough to let go at a good price.
Then the unthinkable... turn away now if you are easily shocked ;)
Made a little jig for my router table
The first trial to see how they would take the cutter. It cut lovely with no chatter or splintering :)
Final check of depth
The majority of the waste cut away
After shaping with a dremel sanding drum and some elbow grease
The finished rim once wet sanded and etched logo painted in
Got some red anno suzue hubs off JT Racing and Del was kind enough to send me a few different sized decals to get the scale right inside the hub
Laced them up tonight in a crazy pattern (spokes were too short ;)) just to see how they would take the tension. I actually shat myself nearing the end of the lacing as the rim was a real crazy shape but it trued up well and should be lovely when i lace them in a 3x pattern :daumenhoch:
The finished article :smitten:
Big thanks to Scorcher Mick, JT Racing and Del for helping me make this possible :daumenhoch:
