Big cycling event in London this weekend.
« on: August 01, 2013, 08:02 AM »
I just found this on Raleighburner.com so I have copied the info across as it may interest some of you.  :daumenhoch:

There's a huge cycle event in London on Saturday where people can turn up and ride an 8 mile route traffic free.

Details here: http://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/The_Events/Prudential_RideLondon_FreeCycle.htm

Route Access
You can enter and exit at any point along the route, do as many laps as you like and come and go as you please. There’s also a shorter two-mile loop that takes in The Mall, Whitehall, Embankment, Parliament Square and Birdcage Walk, if you don’t want to venture too far from Green Park. Cyclists will also be able to stop off en route to enjoy a range of bike-based entertainment and activities.

Around the route
In addition to the great cycling you’ll experience, there will also be a variety of bike-based entertainment for the whole family to enjoy along the route. Three Festival Zones will be at the heart of Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle. There will be three separate Festival Zones at Green Park, St. Paul’s Cathedral and Tower Hill, all well worth a visit. Each Festival Zone will feature live bike-related entertainment, music, shows, demonstrations and workshops.

Riders can stop off at any point to enjoy the many enticing food and drink options that London has to offer along the route. Each Festival Zone will also have toilet facilities and a Å KODA Hydration Station so that riders can fill up water bottles and stay hydrated. First Aid medical provision will be available along the Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle Route and in each Festival Zone.

If your bike needs a quick once over or a little TLC, pop along to see one of the CTC bike doctors, who will be located in all three Festival Zones. The CTC bike doctors will also be roaming around the PrudentialRideLondon FreeCycle Route in case you have a breakdown while you’re on the move.

There will also be music zones along the route featuring a variety of musical entertainment and noise zones along the route where riders will be encouraged to make some noise by ringing their bike bells and peeping horns.

Green Park Festival Zone
The Green Park Festival Zone will be the largest of the three main entertainment areas and will feature the following attractions:

Big Screen – Featuring all the action from the Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling weekend.
Prudential RideLondon Stage – Live music performances from GIGS – the Mayor of London’s big busking competition.
ŠKODA Ramp & Try-Out Park – Bike demonstrations by the pros. Riders will also have the opportunity to have a go at tricks and stunts.
Tabard signing by professional cyclists. Timings will be announced on the Prudential RideLondon Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/RideLondon and via Twitter @RideLondon #PruRL2013
Customise Your Tabard – An opportunity for riders to give their Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle tabards a stylish makeover.
ŠKODA Bling Your Bike – Art workshops where riders can decorate their bikes to give it a colourful new lease of life.
Go Ride Racing – Information on British Cycling’s scheme to get more under 16s into competitive cycling.
For smaller cyclists, the Strider Challenge adventure zone will give children from 18 months to five years the opportunity to have some fun trying out balance bikes.
Exchanging Places – Information on this innovative cycle safety awareness scheme.
Bike Marking – Bike security marking will be carried out by the Metropolitan Police.

Cool. I'm doing the Sunday ride (25 miles, leg 3) with work, no bmx for the hills section though!  :D
