I know Im a bit late to this thread Olly, but if you spray the area with WD40 (or any light oil Id imagine) before you apply the heat it will give you the rainbow edges.  :daumenhoch:

Cheers gav and yes I gave a it a clear coat, and Jon I tried that but the oil burnt on the frame, so sanded it and heated it again I'm pretty happy with the results and at the end of the day it's only going to get battered! Like it should! :daumenhoch:
