stupid question about tyres - can I run 1.75 tyres on a 1.5 rim?

Yes you can with no problems. I run 1.75 tyres on my Araya 7 x 1.5 rims that are fitted to my MT Racing Fox. I've used it on a few rad rides, been round the MK track on it, and also did a 26 mile bike ride last year.
