What part would you bring back?
Retrodan72:
Want to know what one of the best things about repop parts are?
Well, for someone, like myself, who will use a repop part before parting with the cash for an OG part (which the price a lot of the time, just seems to be a made up number) on my bikes, means that my bikes do what I wanted them to do, when I started to build them. They look the part and in doing so, fire up a lot of memories for people when they see them.
It seems to me a lot of the time, that many people are craving that OG part in order to satisfy the purists and OSBMX hierarchy. Ok, if you’re seriously into collecting accolades in S&S events, then criteria set by judging panels must be met, so OG parts are essential. But IMHO, if you’re only building bikes to collect trophies, then you’re building for the wrong reasons. Yes, it’s nice to get a medal now and again (I know), but there’s people about, and I’ve seen them at MK, that really believe that they should scoop the lot with their vanity builds, and get really hacked off if they don’t win - YOU WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE THIS DISAPPOINTMENT WITH A BIKE MADE UP OF REPOP PARTS.
Also, if you’re worried that a flood of repop parts into the scene is going to devalue your OG stuff, then maybe you’re on this hobby for the wrong reasons? If you’re sitting on OG stuff thinking that in a few years you can pay off your mortgage with say a Suntour stem, then you’re a fool. My 4 repop draped bikes aren’t worth a carrot, but I’m also not experiencing any anxiety over what they’ll be worth in years to come - YOU WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE THIS STRESS WITH A BIKE MADE UP OF REPOP PARTS.

Some very wise words Dan ...
It’s not about making money for me but about the love of bmx ...
You’ve always mastered the art of that fine tightrope of mixing old and new parts seemlessly on your builds ...
Sadly most others have not! Lol ( you only have to look at the clown bike thread )
I also agree with your idea of vanity projects for some at the s and s ....
People who know me know I hate what I call the “revisionist views of old school bmx”... where expensive or non era correct parts are used because they are a means to show off or out do others ( Comp Pools are my biggest pet hate)
I wrote on FB only a few days ago that I’d rather half the collectors left the scene right now if it freed up parts to allow others to build even if it meant the value of my own bikes and parts halved.
My most favourite build ever was my cheapest .. my GS Burner .. my childhood bike ... I was lucky enough to get OG tyres for it ... would I have put repops on it .. yes but only if I couldn’t have found those originals...
Repop has its place for sure and in the case of tyres it’s been crucial for most of us who like to ride our bikes :daumenhoch:
Dan how do you feel about those Raleigh re-issues or the latest Haro Masters ?
They’re not for me but both have proved extremely popular?

Raleigh have cashed in again Ant as they did in 2007, except this time they had to do a better job of it than the abortions they released back then, mainly because the scene is apparent now, it wasn’t so then, and also social media and forums provide accurate reference to what the original bikes looked like and what parts they came with so approaching the original part manufacturers who are also cashing in was more viable. If they released the ‘Curry’ Burner today, with its Tektro brakes etc, it wouldn’t sell.
The current AP and recent TAP’s IMHO, are ok I suppose, not for me, but I certainly would’nt turn my nose up at one of it was given to me. As I said, it’s a cashing in exercise by Raleigh, who can blame them, they just jumped on the bandwagon with everyone else. There’s nothing wrong with these bikes, it’s the coonts that bought them that were the wrong’uns. In an ideal world, Raleigh should have employed a vetting process to all potential buyers, a bit like dog rescue centers do when handing over a puppy, well perhaps not that stringent :LolLolLolLol:
It would have been nice to see FB flooded with pics of repop AP’s being ridden by Dad’s riding the with their kids and more importantly, loving them when in fact, it seems most were bought for flipping - did any of them sell for the flipped price btw?
HUTCHMAN:
Profile horseshoe pedals.

Repop parts vs OG is like an inflatable doll Vs a woman.
So.... OK for a rider :2funny: :LolLolLolLol:
