Depends on the individual, if it's part of your lifestyle then age is irrelevant.
In fact if you look at the origins of most stretching, the amount of stretching correlates to age and/or seniority.

that's lucky,mine took a good few years to get to 10mm but I haven't damaged the elasticity in the lobe, if i take it out for more than a couple of days I have to start back at a 6 or 7

I've got a crease in the lobe that goes most of the way to concealing the punch too so I'm very lucky, I've got friends with dangling spaghetti when their plugs are out.
