My wifey had a chuckle when I read this to her, then just said "well at least it wasn't wheels in the dishwasher or a tuf neck in the oven"

Inverse of the freezer trick, was restoring one and wanted to remove the shaft, alloy will heat and expand earlier/quicker than the steel.
Steps:
Get yourself a nice thick plank of wood, drill a 7/8" hole in the middle of it, loosen the big bolt in the stem shaft until its only biting by a couple of threads, put whole stem in the oven (Jamie recommends gas mark 6 :2funny:) for 10 min's, remove from oven, drop through hole in plank, place assembly over a vice (or edge of worktop etc) and tap top of large stem bolt lightly with rubber mallet, block of wood etc. It will fall apart without damaging either piece. Use the freezer (on shaft) to put back together without risk of damage :daumenhoch:
