I've tried to tell him we can make a feature of it.  Gives the room character, a 'lived-in' look.

OK, this may be a really stupid question, but seeing that I have a brand new full set of decals to go on the bike at the end of restoration, could I not give it a thin coating of grease or something?  My dad used to rub an oily rag over his chisels to stop them going rusty.
