A new trend in selling ?
« on: October 19, 2014, 08:06 PM »
Is it just me who's noticed an increasing trend in "bike raffles" over on the dreaded faceache . There seems to be loads of bikes / frame sets going on various raffles recently, I guess it's a good way of selling your bike without having to ask £2k for it, just sell 100 tickets at £20 or whatever.
WANTED....FRED BLOOD QUADANGLE FRAME..

I noticed that too buddy. Like you say, it's kind of a guaranteed sale for the seller's asking price if they sell all the tickets.

I don't think I personally would sell that way though  :)

AFAIK the guy who's sold the most/his collection did so because his wife is ill and wanted shot asap without having to go to the hassle of breaking them up.

People seem to have got the idea from Brett who did it to raise money for his sister who is suffering from cancer.

Personally, unless its for a good cause... I think its wrong and wouldn't buy a ticket.

Yep.  For a good cause they are great but just because you can is a reason not to buy a ticket.

A great way of getting more than your bikes worth... if you're that way inclined.   :-\

exactly, I'm all for it when it's for stuff like Bretty was doing but it does just seem like people do it so they guarantee a higher than normal amount for their POS  :daumenhoch:

I don't see much wrong with it, good way of getting over the odds for something you are struggling to sell. Everyones a winner, the seller gets over the odds for the bike and there's much better odds than winning the lottery on a £20 pop to win a bike. you hit the nail on the head, allows the seller to get more than the going rate for something that won't sell for the over inflated price they want  :daumenhoch:

I think i saw a proper POS frame n forks going on one of them which would've netted the seller about 4 times what the thing was actually worth.....Kerching!!!   "nono"

I did it with my Dyno - I needed some cash quick and basically sold the bike for £490, the punters paid a tenner, we had a bit of fun, the Macmillan Nurses got £100 and I got £390, so lost £60 on what the bike cost to build.

With my GT, I did it as I needed £1500 for a new boiler and flue, it was £20 to play this time, but a lot more bike, the tickets sold in 24 hours, and the boiler was fitted next day, and the couple living in the house I rent out, and their baby had hot water again, everyone's happy, I don't see the harm.

Complete's are difficult to shift, and I hate splitting a bike I've lovingly built, and posting individual parts is an arsehole.

I dont see a problem with it. People can choose whether they want to buy a tickets or not. If its your dream bike, then make the 'seller' an offer, or buy all the tickets to can to maximise your chances
