I see this question loads and lots of different answers.
If you want a 100% sure way of removing sticky residue and with no hard scrubbing etc try Methyl Ethyl Ketone. It will take it off your bike like lightening.
I use it for removing years old dried petrol lacquer from carburretors when refurbing them, so it is strong stuff.
It is cheap too......

furniture polish for me, spray on leave 5 mins and wipe away, its free too!!!!
