Firebird memories and Acorn freestyle bearings - found!
nikb:
I'm 43 yrs young, had a DP firebird Freestyler from new in 1987 (give or take a year...). It got nicked by a scumbag at secondary school, and now I'm on the hunt for another Firebird to restore/re-build. Anyhow, a couple of years ago I got the old-spool bug again and bought a part-finished unknown frame for my son. I added a few NOS parts including some baby blue Acorn mags, as that's what i had in the 80's and i love the look of 'em.
The bearings didn't last long and seemed very difficult to find, but "bankrupt bike parts" on ebay sells them, even though they don't advertise them.
So if you have some Acorn mags and they are dead due to knackered bearings, for around £7 a pair, you could have those cool 80s mags spinning once again!
Nik.

you'll need deep pockets to buy a firebird nowadays :-\
Taipan:
Or a set of DP Ladder bars starting at £500 on ebay?
Tbh I don't see the attraction of the bars or why people have put the value on them so high? :idiot2:
