Hi chaps.
Thank you so much for this. Some of you will recall I had all my tools stolen once before - about four years ago. Totally different circumstances, different location but sadly the same outcome; some scumbag felt it was ok to take another persons' livelihood away for what will no doubt be a mere fraction of what the tools cost, and of course they would have no concept (nor give a fcuk) of just how hard my lads and I had worked to attain that toolkit.
We had just got to a stage where we had every tool for every job regardless of ramp manufacturer or build system. We literally wanted for nothing and it was a long hard slog over the past four years to get to that point.
I'm still working my way through the insurance claim form as we speak. I have to sift back through four years of accounts to dig out receipts for everything, a royal pain in the arse I'm sure you'll all agree.
To bring you all up to date, I have been in touch with all my clients with pending jobs and they have all very graciously agreed to allow me to reschedule the work based on tools required. In other words, the job requiring the least tools gets done first. We were able to carry out a couple of jobs last week on this basis and we're now effectively stood down whilst we await payments coming in which will allow us to buy materials for our next significant sized job.
Thankfully, one of my lads took his tools home at the weekend so his weren't lost. I have replaced some of the tools belonging to my other mucker which were also stolen. So as we stand here today, we are destitute but have a couple of tools around us.
The money you have very generously donated to me has been spent on a 12v - 240v inverter for my vehicle. This allows us to charge cordless tool batteries whilst out on site, which is imperative. Obviously my generators went along with all the tools so the need to charge batteries is top of the list with no portable power now and obviously working in council parks there's nowhere to run a lead from....
Just so you all know regarding MK ramps, all of the materials had been purchased weeks ago and we were a good way through cutting everything for the job. I picked up a cheap Evolution chopsaw which will see us through in the short term, so everything is cool there and on schedule for the event.
Thank you also for the PMs offering help, tool loans and so forth - I can't tell you how much I appreciate the thought.
And that's it for now. I'll get the MK stuff all done during this stand down period and once we get some money in we'll be onto the next job with the absolute bare bones of a toolkit to do the job.
Our 2015 is a complete write off but that's all. We won't be beaten by this and assuming the insurance thing is straightforward we will be able to replace about 50% of the lost tools which will be enough for us to plough on.
Once again, thank you all so much.
See you at MK :)
Rob
