Rear Drop Out Distances

(1/2) > >>

Flovalwolfie:
Hi

Does anyone know why a NOS frames drop outs would be 100mm instead of 110mm between each other ? The rear wheel won't fit in-between the drop outs. Or are some hubs narrower ?

Thanks for any help

GS1962:
I could do also with some help on this very same question. I too just picked up a lovely NOS frame from the early/mid eighties and the rear dropout spacing is only 100mm on that too.
I get that this isn't common but were some frames built this way or is it simply poorly built.......hence NOS?
If it is just an uncommon set up how do you get the rear wheel to fit and stop the freewheel catching the chainstay? If I remove all cone spacers it'll go in wit the freewheel's then too wide. Running Suzue hubs.

MartyC:
What frame is it/are they?

Sometimes you need to "spread" the rear triangles apart if the gap is a little short, quite common bitd.

This is a good read:

griff:
try twatting it with a hammer

GS1962:
Sorted mine.....cold opened the rear out to 105mm and then sprung it open the last 5mm to insert the wheel. Thanks for your help on this one!
