ET Barn Find and Resto
Gashead:
Ok, so I have had this US spec ET for about 12 months, stumbled across it on eBay one evening and started a conversation with the owner about getting it bought, and also a pretty cool story that went with the history of the bike.
Dom Phippsio helped me to get it shipped, and then a simple rest. I decided to simply give it a good clean, as it was criminal to repaint etc
Here is the story behind this little bike.......from the previous owner.
Hi Nick,
First of all, I can't believe I'm selling this bike. It just so happens I stumbled across this bike at a local resale store about 1/2 a mile from my house. When I was in high school back in the early 80's I worked at the campus movie theater in downtown Ann Arbor. I was heavy into BMX and race around the state. While working at the theater the Movie ET was playing. I must have seen that movie 100 time at the theater. For many years ET was my favorite movie and still is one of my fav's. So a Kuwahara ET is something special to me. I previously owned a Apollo Kuwahara and decided to sell it when I come across the one you bought from me. During my hole life I personally only seen two ET kuwahara's. The Apollo I sold a while back and one Back in the day around the time the ET Kuwahara come out. The interesting thing is that back then I was riding around with my friends on our bikes and a guy come up to us and was telling us that his sons bike was stolen. It was a ET Kuwahara. The guy asked us to help him find the bike and gave us his info. Because I knew literally everyone in town that rode bmx I figured I might be able to help him get it back, and within a week we found the bike and returned it to the little boy. Good deed done!
Now, about two month ago I was at the local resale shop and was walking by the back door and noticed out of the corner of my eye a red and white bmx bike outside that someone just dropped off. I instantly knew what it was. I walked straight to it while the workers was telling me "employees only in this area" I kept walking to the bike and asked is this bike for sale? The guy that worked there laughed and said said yes if you think it's worth buying. Because I the boys et bike was the only one I have ever seen and I probably would have noticed another if I seen one. I'm thinking this is the same bike, but 33 years later.
