Pre serial Hutch Exper Racer - Project Budget Hutch

(1/10) > >>

fatalan:
Once upon a time (many years ago) I had a Raleigh burner.  I then got to 40 and decided I wanted another.  I recently purchased an Ultra Burner.  It was OK but it wasn't what I wanted.

Recently I purchased a  Hutch Frame from a member of the radbmx forum.  It was sold to me as needing work and it does need work.

The reason why I am starting this thread so early on is that I am the king of procrastination.  If I have a build record it will hopefully inspire me to complete the build rather than get half way through and break it. I know that ultimately project bikes seem to end up being broken in the end but Id rather finish it first!

All that has happened so far is I have paid for it.  Had it delivered and have booked it in for de-chroming.  I will be dropping the frame off Monday.

At the moment the plan is to build a nice looking bike with period correct bits that will not kill me financially!

Starting point

1)Frame as purchased -

2)Rear brake bridge

3)Headtube

Nice one Alan, good to see an exciting looking build thread.
What colour are you going to go with? I love the old candy reds and blues...not sure if they were out when this frame was made.
You should be able to build something tasty for a reasonable budget if you use some repop parts here n there. Have you sourced forks yet?

Thanks Damo.. thanks for the comment.

2 things that have been taking up much of my spare thought process have been included in your comment - forks and colour!

Looking at forks I have seen the "proper" forks in the US changing hands for rather significant amounts of money.  I have been looking into similar looking forks - perhaps some landing gears.. not sure.  I could always keep my eyes open for proper forks once built.  I cannot really justify the cost.

Colourwise I am keen on black but part of me is telling myself to just do something a bit mad..  I considered pink.. I like futuristic black that they did for a while.  I think they look good white and a sky blue colour.  I have till the frame comes back to decide!  Part of the issue I had with the ultra burner I had is that I could see others just like it online.

Gonna be re-pops a plenty on this deeman.. have you seen the price of proper pedals for these!  They are thing of beauty but as my first full build Im going for completeness and rideability.  I can always look at those rare bits as time goes on.

I really need to have the fork choice made before powder coating really!

Definitely go mad!! The pink ones look cool..personally I would go candy red, the finish looks amaing. check the galleries of SBD's work, you should see some examples there. white is a little boring imo.
Forkwise, you might get lucky and find some hutch forks..a wanted ad on here may turn some up. Other than that, people usually use Tange ARx or similar, or maybe newer stamped Landing Gears.
Yea, the hutch pedals are stupid money, even the repops...As you intend to ride the bike probably for the best as they are not exactly shin friendly! A pair of Suntour XC II's look similar and nice, if you are getting the frame powdered you could get a bit fancy on the pedal cages or bodies...or maybe a pair of Shimano/Victor DX..It doesn't have to be a full Hutch build to be a nice bike. I have a nice pair of gold Araya 7X which would look ace on there depending on where you go with the colours.  :daumenhoch:
