1-1/8 forks and headset in oldschool bike that came with 1"

Not sure if this is the place for this question.

I have searched and found reference to this (on here and on another site) but nothing seems to tell me what I need to buy to fit new 1-1/8 forks and a new headset to a bike that came with 1" fork and headset.

Essentially this is for my budget hutch.  I can get cheap 1-1/8 forks everywhere.  And the headset.   Just not sure what else id need.

I don't want to use 1" forks and a 1" headset - just go all new-school on the front.

This is definitely possible - Ed209 had a thread in the tech section a couple of years ago now so it may take some searching but it's definitely on here.

You need half the parts from 2 headsets and about 2 or 3 sets of smaller size cage bearings which you strip out the bearings from to make a ring of smaller bearings without a cage. It's tricky but by packing them in lots of grease it can be done.

I found it.. it turns out my search-fu was weak..

Will be on eBay looking for cheap used headsets and bearings as I don't have a box of bits.. this is my first full build so I suppose over time I will acquire boxes of random bits...

Dont do it Al you can pick forks up even hutch.

It does feel in some way wrong I'll admit.. maybe in just in too much of a hurry to build it.  I know the right thing would be to grab some hutch forks.

I should really get a nice headset and BB and stick it in the loft till the right bits come along.
