Stuck stem in forks - Help!

Mark i'd stick to newschool mate. It goes together simple and comes back apart just as easily.

Why only today I was installing a brand new headset and brand new stem on a bike I bought brand new off some bloke on here a couple of weeks ago..... hang on, it was off you :2funny:

But your problem is the wedge has turned or twisted slightly and needs to be removed seperately to the shaft as hitting it from below is just driving it tighter into the inside of the steerer tube. Have you tried threading the bolt into the wedge  from underneath  (up the forks instead of down) and then tapping it left and right gently round until it frees slightly and then repeat until it frees. Then wiggle it out from the bottom or at least free of the shaft.

A soak in diesel overnight then might get the shaft free and if not, you're off to a machine shop to see if they can adapt a stud extractor or something else to free it.

If you're really stuck then bring it up to mine and we'll get Ben over with some really big hammers but I can't gaurentee anyone's safety, let alone the stem or forks :shocked:

yes a hammer, a vice (good one) and metal bar, plus a lots of wd40 or similar will work..explosion!! just don't go to ham ;) ;) ;) ;)

This will work ^^^^ but make sure you screw the bolt in a fair way  :daumenhoch:
