How I fixed my cut down handlebars ...

Right , I finally got round to doing this yesterday . I got these Hoffman Love Handles from a member on here a while ago . They had been cut down an inch each side which is ok if you run brakeless , but there wasn`t enough room for a brake lever and a grip . I`m old and I like brakes so I need to put that inch each side back on ...
Here`s the bars as I got them

Ok , I need some 22.2 mm tubing . Somebody has left an old Fiesta wheelbrace round my house and it happens to be just right :

I want the bars to be strong so I need a sleeve to fit inside the bars and the repair . I found a tie rod from a VW Baywindow , the tubing is thick and it`s a nice tight fit :

So , here goes . Cut the wheelbrace ...

Put the piece of wheelbrace onto the sleeve ...

Here is my 2 pieces , I welded the ends up and cleaned them up a bit . I know I won`t be able to use grips with end plugs any more but hey , I`ve got my own endplugs now .

Right , this is how it is going to work :

Weld them on ...

Clean them up ...

There ! back to normal size !

Right , next project:

To be continued ...
