love a story like this with a build.
can't wait for the 28h coaster hub conversion 8)
McQUEEN:
So, part of the build is the conversion of a 28h to 48h coaster hub shell. I'd spent ages trying to find one of the Suntour 48h coasters and wasn't really getting anywhere with WTB adverts on all the forums until I had an offer from a flatlander rider in America - he'd successfully converted a number of hubs himself and had one ready for fabrication, which he offered to me.
The conversion is really simple - it consists of two manufactured flanges with 48h to match the 'proper' hubs - which you braze / weld onto the hub after you've taken the smaller 28h flanges. Have you ever knocked of a hub flange - I was blown away with how simple it was. Two knocks with an engineering hammer and they are off - leaving a serrated edge onto which you push the new flanges over.
One thing to remember is to offset one flange so that it's 1/96 of a revolution past the opposite flange, or else you'll have unequal spoke lengths!
Here's the 28h hub shell and the 48h flanges....
