1984 Peugeot 301 build thread.

So I got this pug a while back off the Pug Facebook group for £50 to give me something to build that wasn’t going to break the bank. There isn’t much info on these available online and with Peugeot doing so many different models it’s hard to determine what it is but from what info I could gather it’s a 1984 301 which also looked like it was marketed as a Levi’s special too as a low end catalog bike. However I must say the frame is quite light with nice tig welding although the forks are almost as heavy as the frame but I don’t know if they were originally a match for the frame.
This is how it came to me.
My plan was to give it an oxy bath and clean up and just build it up with low end parts and keep to a tight budget but I just wasn’t feeling it as the chrome was quite badly pitted in places with a lot of loss on the bb area and a bit of flaking on the rear stays and with the mismatched spray bombed black forks I was never going to be happy with it. So I’ve set about giving it a full resto.
Frame and forks thoroughly cleaned and prepped ready for paint, and nasty chain guard tabs chopped off.
Got a few coats of etch primer on it today and flatted back with 1200 wet and dry. There’s still quite a bit of pitting visible and I’ve broke through the primer in a couple of places so plan on giving it a few more coats then some high build primer over it to try and get as good a finish as possible.
Also done a bit of a resto today on the metal head badge, stem, and seat clamp. Stem had OG anno on the base but the cap had been sprayed. Seat clamp had also been sprayed.
How they were.
And now.
I’ve got most of the parts sorted for it nothing high end but all decent stuff, just need work and the wife to stop getting in the way of getting it built now!
