1980 Mongoose Motomag build -my 2nd in a week (this is addictive)

i am liking this now it has the ACs stuff on and the tuffs and those tyres are gone! Are you going for ACs stoker pedals too to complete the picture? they are a bit 'late' for this type of frame but real nice components and look good on there. Most of the bits you are using are more suited to a 83/4 bike much better but this will still look great. I know the components are only a few years later than the frame but that was a long time back then as innovation and the sport developed very rapidly.
In time you will probably swap bits out as you get more into the scene and look at other similar bikes. My first build is still evolving now after 8 or 9 years i am still not COMPLETELY happy with it but it's not far off my vision of perfection now. Most of the major components have been changed two or three times, some five or six!! Some bits were changed for era correctness, some purely on condition, some as their proportions were not right for the frame and some purely because i saw another part i preferred. It all depends what the bike os for and how anal you want to get about it all.....
I reckon DEFO all black tyres too.... :daumenhoch:

Thanks, I think it will come together pretty well.
I do like the idea of ACS throughout (well all the buts they made) but I am not convinced about their stoker pedals..bit strange looking.
I accept that the purists will frown on my selection of components but it is not a show bike and I am not claiming it is 'as Skip Hess expected'.
I am just going for something that looks like you got the bike in 1980 and then swapped out parts for what you though were better as time went on, with a bit of brand identity/consistency.
Black AME grip, Black Kashimax seat ....and probably all black tyres (but not sure which exact ones. Want something that compliments the Aero's. So not too heavy/bulky I guess).

Mate, there is no better plan as far as I'm concerned. BMX was exactly this when we were kids and that's what gives me the memories when I look at builds now, same as when I used to build myself :coolsmiley:

Baby steps:
Seat post and seat now fitted.
The Araya Aero rims and ACS hubs arrived this week so time to get the wheels built.

Coming along nicely! :)
