Lock-on grip bolts

(1/1)

Mikku:
I want to change out the grips on my race bike but one of the little hex bolts has rounded off and I can't undo the fooker! :2gunsfiring_v1:

I've read various suggestions online about what to do in this (what seems to be common) situation, varying from using a rubber band, banging a flat-head screwdriver into it, drilling the head, hacksawing it, using a Dremel, buying a bolt extractor, etc, etc. I've already failed with the lacky band, so before I try anything else, have any RADsters had the same problem and if so, what did you do? Thanks in advance! :daumenhoch:

PS Yes, I will grease and not over-tighten the new bolts when I'm finally able to fit the new grips! fistblump

BrianP:
Try tapping a small Torx bit into the bolt head, you might get enough of a "bite" on that to get it unscrewed - I've done this with socket head bolts in the past and had some success with it.

Mikku:
Thanks Brian! Not sure I have one but will have a rummage around the tool box. :daumenhoch:

Mikku:
Couldn't rustle up a torx bit, so tried wedging a small, flat-headed screwdriver in the head of the bolt. After a minute or so of hammering the fooker, I managed to get enough purchase on the bolt to unscrew it! :daumenhoch:

Which just goes to show the old adage "if in doubt, give it a clout" is alive and well! At least in this bodger's repertoire! ;D
