The Final One - 1986 GT Wor..........

(1/4) > >>

That Swan Guy:
As some of you may know, I'm a GT nut and I recently embarked on a mission to build the full set of 1986 GT Pro World Tour bikes that were put on general release in 1986. Yes I know dayglo came later but this coincided with the name change to Pro Freestyle Tour.

As you can see they produced:

Blue
White
Green
Lavender
Pink
Chrome

One of the features of the PWT range was the twin cable guide on the front fork, this was to allow the use of DC 901 brakes on the front (their arm is on the other side to most brake calipers).

This wasn't such a major stumbling block except for the chrome bike! See chrome bike thread:

Anyway, those who have followed my progress will know I only had to build the blue one to complete the set.

That Swan Guy:
Using the 1986 Catalogue as my inspiration I went off on my merry way!

Thing to note here is that this catalogue was obviously produced at the end of 85 ready for 86. This is why the seat post and bars are decaled as 85. I though about copying it but the rest of the set all have 86 decals and it would look odd, so didn't! Don't shoot me!

And as you can see it is wearing a 901 on the front...…. those that know, know just how tight a 901 on the front is when the bars are turned, so again I chose not to follow it exactly.

But I had a dilemma, in fact two!

Those tyres and that seat!

That Swan Guy:
So the search was on...……

Two things happened completely out of the blue (no pun intended).

Finny posted some NOS white Shinkos for sale on facebook and within seconds they were mine  explosion

And a friend in the US pm'd me about a blue seat but it had a little problem.

That Swan Guy:
I trawled all the plastic specialists and nobody was willing to help, some even scoffed at it being a bike seat!

So I decided to go for it myself with superglue and a vice!

Came out not bad really, it is visible but only if you look for it

That Swan Guy:
The frame itself is a November 1985 US made frame set, so it does qualify as an 86 on the Duckworth-Lewis rule!

It was originally pink but somebody had painted it what could only be called shit gloss paint, and it stunk!

After a little bit of fettling to sort the rear dropouts (Thanks Tom) off it went to SBD
