What are you building in 2023 ?

Midschoolfool:
Sod all. Like literally sod all.

I have a set of very early Kink Empire forks I want to restore and I want to finish my STA but other than possibly repaint the Ruben frame that will be it.

Obviously the obligatory part upgrades may happen here and there if and when they come up but that will be it from me. Going to get rid of a few bikes too, the non critical ones.

Have you seen these ?

Midschoolfool:
I did yes. I have a feeling they were the rejects that Matty Barton had made and should not be for sale. Because at that price they are clearly not originals.

I still have about two sets of them left. Plus Nick threw in some more for me (where I got mine from) when I bought the fork.

The steerer had come loose, but Nick had Leroy repair them so I know they are totally kosher. Leroy does some killer work (he also does all of Matt Barton's repairs). They have never been repainted, but they are battered and pitted. All of the things I am good at sorting.

I had literally been waiting over  5 years to find a fork set to do it justice. Because the earlier Standards are so popular the bash forks now sell for mental money (over 200 notes) and besides that is really predictable. So I put the Mirra Pro 2017 fork on there for now as it was the only uncut fork I had.

The only issue (and what will make it into a long project) is the axle on that tank NOS wheel is 14mm. And no one in their right mind would cut a set of forks that are so utterly rare. Hand made in NY, original Kink gear. So, that means I need to remove the axle, vernier it, send it down to my friend who will then remove everything past the bearing faces, before putting it into his lathe and making it a 10mm female axle. That way the fork gets left untouched, apart from of course a full restoration and replacement decals.

I aim to cull this year. I would say at least half are going. There are 5 you would need to drag from my cold dead hands, and that STA is one of them.

Swivel:
Morning all.

I'm building an original chrome 82 Haro Freestyler, a Kuwahara Lazerlite too.

I don't think i'll find time to do anything else but we'll see  :D

All the best
