US  ones have numeric sequence  like 8 digits if I remember well on the outside of the rear dropout.

Non US made have a sequence beginning with a letter under the bb.
July 85 would begin with G5 for instance. G for July and 5 for 1985.

what you got dan? 018376557 would be 01/83  nr76557 if you catch my drift. a little 4 between the rear tubes ona dropout would mean pro size.

mine is still in us so the chap wrote it down it could be wrong thou
something like ds 60705704 but dont no if its rear drop out or bb
