New school bikes.

Flatcap:
My long and stressful search for a bike ended a couple of weeks ago when I bought that Haro F5 at a very very reasonable price. I'm going to change one or two bits on it but overall I really do like it. It's strong, not too heavy (32lbs) and looks great. I'm going to use the Haro as my main bike for ramps etc. so I've also bought a new school GT which I paid next to nothing for which I'm mainly going to use for back up parts or as a seperate street/dirt bike so I'm not too worried about thrashing it which often happens with street/dirt. So overall I'm very happy, I've got my Haro F5, the GT for street, my red and chrome Steet Beat project and I'm on the look out for a GT Performer ideally in yellow for a future project.

However, if there's one thing that really dissapoints me about the new school bikes is that they are all so similar, they all look virtually the same. The bars are the same shape, most of the frames give or take some minor details are the same. That's one of the things I really love about the old school bikes is they were so diverse, how much different does a Hutch Trick Star look from a GT Performer or a Street Beat for instance. There was more scope for individuality and creativity which is what BMX is all about.

I'm sure the new school bikes are better, stronger and more reliable but it's just same same same which is such a shame shame shame!

Anyone else feel the same?

Yeh i kinda know wot ya sayin Flatcap.

Thats why i got a DK Cleveland in citrus orange! I didnt want a "dull" bike, ive always liked my bikes to look clean and tidy.
I dont personally like the "grimey" look that seems to be the style at the mo.

Just my two bobs worth

Sean.

i think youre right,

there are only really small details that set them apart, brake mounts, tubing specs, geometry, etc,

the main reason is that the old double diamond frame design just works so well, form over function.

lighter weight is another eason, frames now are doing away with everything unecessary inorder to shed weight but keep strength,

aesthetics play a big part too, the DD just looks so clean.

gav12345:
yep you are right, the only big difference is the colour! i just dropped out of new school, and i am learning about old school. but the rims are nice on old school hubs??

ronnie360:
i think the old school bikes look so much better than the new school ones

and they are more eye catching but that is my opinion  :daumenhoch:
