threaded forks

hi all, 

i have a set of gt performer forks with a damaged thread which i think i can save by re-cutting, has anyone done this !

if so what size die would i need ?,

i had a set welded up once ,then re threaded .not sure what size 1" 28tpi but take it to an engineers workshop.
