i altered a suntour coaster one time by taking out the shoes, to make it a freecoaster

still had to attach the arm though

well i bought a suntour coaster hub from custom riders, in 96, thinking yeh a coaster brake would be good.

rode it for about 11 seconds, went over the bars, then took the shoes out of the bastard so it would work as a free coaster.

technically the wheel was a few grams lighter though?

interesting...

i have a NOS pair of Yellow Skyways, steel hub, but with a coaster

the intention is to put them on my torker 280x,
:) but it has no coaster anchor, and i don't really want to scratch the chrome, so i was going to eventually get a freecoaster adaptor,
so would i then still need to use the arm ?

theRuler:
i think you always have to use the arm

as the freecoaster adapter is switchable on the fly between brake and no brake
and for brake you need the arm!!

put some tape around the tube, or a piece of inner tube. that'll protect it from the coaster arm strap
